Veneers
If any of your front teeth are leaving you self-conscious of your smile, veneers offer a natural looking way to enhance their appearance. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that fit over the front of your teeth, completely transforming their appearance. When used in combination with other cosmetic treatments, veneers can completely makeover a smile and let you achieve a neat, straight smile without any unsightly teeth upsetting the balance.
Why have veneers?
Veneers are an effective way to improve the appearance of teeth. Porcelain is partially translucent and so mimics the appearance of natural enamel. It’s very hard to spot the difference between a veneer and a natural tooth of the same shade.
As veneers are so thin, only a small amount of enamel (if any) needs to be removed to accommodate it.
Veneers are also stain-resistant so they are not vulnerable to the same darkening in colour that natural teeth are susceptible to.
What’s involved in having veneers?
We first carry out a full oral health check to make sure your teeth are in prime condition before carrying out any work. We then use local anaesthetic if required and gently trim your existing teeth to create room for the new porcelain veneer.
We either take an impression or scan and send this to our dental lab technician. They then create the porcelain veneer which we bond on normally after a couple of weeks. We provide good quality temporary veneers whilst we wait for the porcelain veneers to be returned.
Looking after your veneers
Your new veneers will be resistant to dental decay, but the rest of the tooth isn’t so lucky. Great oral care hygiene at home will ensure that your veneers stay bonded to the tooth.
