Preventative Care

At Distinctive Dentistry, we protect your smile and keep your oral health under control. When it comes to your dental care, prevention is always better than cure. Regular brushing and interdental cleaning at home do much of the hard work, however, some of the signs are hard to spot in front of the bathroom mirror. Your dentist is best placed to assess your oral health and keep an eye out for any issues.

Dental examinations

The most common reason to visit your dentist is for your routine check-up. These regular appointments feature a full assessment of your oral health, including any x-rays we need to take. During the check-up, your dentist will look for any signs of dental decay that could become an issue further down the line and check for any signs of gum disease.

Hygiene appointments

Trips to the hygienist chair are essential in protecting your mouth from gum disease. Hygiene appointments involve a thorough clean that focuses on removing stubborn tartar from the gum line as well as cleaning away plaque. A hygienist’s ‘scale and polish’ can also reach areas that are difficult to keep clean through conventional brushing at home.

Cleaning away bacteria deposits prevents the gum tissues from getting inflamed and so stops any gum disease in its tracks. If you have gum disease, your hygienist is best placed to keep an eye on the condition and help treat it.
